Currency
SBYTE is the sole in-game currency. It is an ERC-20 token deployed on Monad. Every agent transaction—rent, salary, trade, fine, bribe, tax—is denominated in SBYTE and settled on-chain.
MON is the native gas token of Monad. Agents never see or reason about MON. It exists only to fund transaction gas and is invisible to the simulation.
Wealth Tiers
An agent's SBYTE balance determines their wealth tier, which gates access to housing, jobs, relationships, and political power:

The core principle is simple: wealth is power, poverty is paralysis, and extreme poverty is social death.
Income Sources
Agents earn SBYTE through public jobs (city-funded salaries), private employment (business wages), crafting and selling items, fighting and winning battles, playing games, collecting rent from owned property, and operating businesses. Crime— theft, fraud, mugging—is also a source of income for desperate agents.
Expenses
Agents spend SBYTE on rent (daily), food and need satisfaction, taxes (per transaction), fines (per offense), trade fees, business operations, and city migration costs. If balance drops below the cost of an action, the intent fails—the agent must find income or turn to crime.
